Davis at 9 months

As of July 7th, Davis is 9 months. I can't say enough good things about this little guy. He is easily the most lovable baby around. Always laughing and smiling. He doesn't have his checkup until later in the month, so I'll add stats to this post later.

He has 6 teeth right now. 4 more than Elliot did at this time. As you can see, he has just learned to pull up on things. I think this will be trouble for me at nap times. I can tell he enjoys it so much. He's still not crawling. Well, he gets up on all fours and may take 1-2 crawls before going to his stomach. Then he'll start scooting around. He pushes off with his left leg and leaves the right leg straight. Hopefully he'll be crawling by the end of this month, but there's really no telling. As far as eating goes, he still takes 4 bottles a day and eats 1 thing of baby food at each feeding. He usually takes 2 hour and a half naps a day and goes to sleep between 7 and 7:30. And the little stinker is still waking up anywhere between 6-6:30.

You can definitely tell they're related. However I think Davis favors me & Elliot Lane.

Little Miss

This was Elliot's 1st real haircut. I have cut it before, but I did it myself. I knew she needed to get her hair cut because it was starting to look raggedy, but I didn't trust myself to really make it look good. So off we went to the local Cool Cuts. It was great because they have cute little cars for them to sit in & a movie going just for her, so she was really good. I was happy with the results. However I was surprised that a child's hair cut costs $18.95 these days. Sheesh!

I originally said to just do a 1 layer bob, but the lady talked me into stacking it a little in the back. I do like how it turned out, but I realized this morning as we're getting ready for church, that I had to blow dry & straight iron her hair to make it look good. Not what I want to do every day!

Our Fourth

What started out to be a boring day actually turned into a pretty fun one! We originally had no plans for the 4th because of Lane's work, but he found out last minute that he got the day off, so we kind of just played things by ear.

First thing this morning, we had a pancake breakfast with our church. They had a short little program with an appearance by Thomas Jefferson that was pretty cute. Then the kids rode in a small bike parade. We decorated Elliot's bike and she was so excited to be a part of it.

After Davis took a nap, we headed to Lane's parents house to spend some time with them. Grandma made Elliot a 4th of July hat that she is modeling here.

We capped off the night at my sister's house. All the cousins swam and we had awesome bbq made by my dad.

We decided to forgo fireworks this year since Davis is so young. I'm really sad that we missed them, but that's just how things go with a little one. I couldn't bare waking him up to take him out of the house just to be bombarded by a bunch of noise. Maybe next year. No wait, we'll have another little one by then. So unless we have a babysitter, it will probably be a few years before we get to see fireworks.

Lately

I have been horrible at posting anything exciting these days. Lane has been so busy at work, it seems like the same thing happens everyday. But, we have actually done a couple of fun things. We've been going to lots of birthday parties, which Elliot has loved. 

We also went to a Ranger's game with my parents on Monday. I have been wanting to go forever, but like I've said, Lane's schedule has been crazy. Unfortunately I picked a pretty boring game to attend. The Tigers killed them. And they had won like 6 games in a row before, and every game since. Go figure.

 

Yesterday, we went to see the Blue Man Group at Bass Hall.  I know we're like 10 years late to the party, but that seems to be how it is with us. It was pretty cool. I really wish they allowed pictures. I didn't even get one afterward. I always plan to, but when it comes down to it, I don't like asking other people to take our picture.

I think I mentioned before that Davis likes to try and hold his bottle with his feet. He is actually pretty good at it.

Drama Mama

Elliot has been one big drama queen lately. I don't know what has gotten into her, but hopefully she'll snap out of it fast! She says something is hurt on her body constantly. When I ask her if we should go to the hospital and get lots of shots, or if she'll be ok, she always chooses the shots! What? And then when I move on, she'll come up to me later and ask when we're leaving for the hospital. She is crazy. And yesterday Lane took the kids to the gym and within 15 minutes, they had come to get him because both kids were crying uncontrollably. So out of the norm. When I finally got Elliot to stop crying, she said that she was playing with a puzzle and another little girl turned her "c" upside down. Seriously? That warrants a break down? We had to talk about different responses she can use next time. Oh dear.

Traveling with Kids

We just got back from a little road trip to San Antonio to see the great grandparents. I'm exhausted. It was a good trip, but Lane & I agreed that there will be no more traveling in our future until all of our kiddos are at least 3. I'm sure many of you have experienced this as well. They did great, but the drive was a killer (both ways). Davis was not having it. I can't say I blame him, but it was very inconvenient for me to have to jump in the tiny back seat of our car several times to try & soothe him (which did not work for the most part by the way). He probably cried 1/2 the drive. I told Lane that listening to a crying baby in the car is probably the most stressful thing ever. We were so ready to sleep that night. But of course Elliot got to sleep in between us, which ended up being not a great idea and Davis was very squirmy. The next day was a lot smoother until night time again. Elliot did great & slept in her sleeping bag giving us high hopes of a peaceful night, but Davis had other plans. He developed a runny nose that day, so although he was really tired, he kept waking up because he couldn't breathe, which left us with yet another sleepless night. When we finally reached home I just knew I would finally get a good nights sleep. But that plan was spoiled again because Davis was still dealing with the runny nose. It was at 3:30am that I told myself- I am definitely calling my parents tomorrow and begging them to come over. I had a list of errands and things to do that I did not want to even think about. Lucky for me, they obliged and the day went a lot more smoothly than it would have. And I was a lot less cranky than I could have been. So thank you mom & dad.

And just so you don't think that our trip was a total bust, here are the good times that were had...
-Any time that was not spent driving or sleeping.
-Going to the water park.
-Visiting the greats and the kids being happy the entire time.
-Going to Fiesta Texas.
-Getting a giant Marble Slab ice cream cone on the way home because I thought I totally deserved it.

The Greats

Davis-8 Months

This guy is now 8 months old! He is doing great. He likes to wake up at 6am, which kills me! I can't wait til that changes. He's still one of the happiest babies around and loves to laugh. He no longer has "duck hair" that's fuzzy & sticks straight up. His hair now lays flat, which is kind of sad. I guess I could try to put some styling product in it, but I feel like he'll lose his innocence. So for now I'll just leave it. Just a couple of things I want to remember...I usually sing him a song before putting him down to sleep and he always gets the biggest grin when I start singing. His 3rd tooth is coming in (to the left of his bottom 2). He is now holding his own bottle, which is awesome! He lights up any time Elliot talks to him. He is now getting up on all fours and rocking. I'm sure it will still be a while before he is crawling.

Nie Nie

Do any of you read NieNie Dialogues? It's a blog by Stephanie Nielson. She's been on all the morning shows recently. She and her husband were in a plane crash back in 2008 and she was burned over 80% of her body. Anyway, I read it and I have also read her  book Heaven is Here (good read).

Well last night I got to hear her speak in person! I was pretty excited because I've never been in the same room as anyone "famous". And bonus, Glenn Beck was there too! He briefly spoke and introduced the Nielsons. First Christian (her husband) spoke and then Stephanie. I really wanted to take a picture, but since it was in the chapel (of our church), that would have been inappropriate. Anyway, they spoke about their experience and how with the Savior's help they were able to get through it.

One thing that I took from it and have been thinking about is that we all made a choice to come to this Earth and receive a body, knowing ahead of time the trials we would have to go through. But we thought it was worth it. She said at one point while she was in a coma, she remembers having a choice that she could either stay in Heaven and work there, or go back to Earth and be with her family. She says that she wanted to come back and be in her body, even though it would be painful. That really made me think about life and how precious it is and how grateful we should all be for our bodies. It's something we definitely take for granted. Anyway, I was really glad I was able to hear an uplifting message.

Drum Roll Please

We are pregnant with baby #3! Yes we are well aware that we have an 8 month old which means they will only be 15 months apart (eek!). My doctor even asked if this was an "oops" baby. Nope, we were trying, so there you go. By the time this baby gets here I will have just turned 30 and we're not sure if we want 1 more after that or not (Lane is sure, I'm still on the fence). So with that in mind, we figured we might as well start trying. I kind of would like to get all the "baby years" over with. I love them, but it's hard work! I mean, if you didn't have to deal with breast feeding, sleepless nights, being home bound, potty training, you get my drift~Then it would be cake. Anyway, I'm rambling.

We had our first appointment yesterday and had a sonogram. They said everything looked great. I am 7 weeks 4 days today, so it's still very early. That means my due date is January 7, 2013. Lane's first thought was, how can we make sure we have this baby before the end of the year so we can get a tax break. Always thinking honey :) With both of my kids I have had a scheduled induction at 39 weeks. However, I have always had an appointment the day before where they strip my membranes. I would then go into labor that night on my own & not have to be induced. SO with that in mind, I would schedule an induction on December 31st (they can only do it a week early). So one of my requests to my doctor was that I needed by appointment on the 30th so that way I will have 2 full days to have the baby. Luckily she is cool with it. Of course this is assuming that everything goes smoothly. Anyway, get ready for more baby posts each month!

Just Like Daddy

Lane had just gotten home from working the night shift and I asked him to keep an eye on Davis while I took a quick shower. I about died when I saw them like this.

1st Trip to the Dentist

Elliot had her 1st real visit to the dentist yesterday. She thought it would be a good idea to bring along Rollo (bear). I have to say I was so proud of her. She did awesome! She wasn't scared at all and was so proud of herself.

Mother's Day

I'm so blessed to be the mother of these little ones. They fill my life with so much love.

Davis at 7 months

Davis has been doing great lately! He doesn't have another appointment until 9 months, but here's what he's doing these days. He's sitting up a lot better. I still put a pillow behind him because he's so unpredictable. If I lay him on his tummy, he immediately rolls over. Hopefully he'll stay on his tummy so he can start getting up on all fours. As you can see in this picture, he loves to grab things. He'll get a hold of one of the animals while it's spinning & just hold onto it. 

I have noticed he often sleeps on his side. He is still a good sleeper. He goes down around 8:30pm (wish I could move that to 7:30) and doesn't wake up until about 6:45am. He naps 3 times a day. His 2nd nap is typically the long one (2 hours).

He is still eating 4 6oz bottles a day, but now those are followed by baby food (half a jar) and 1 oz of prune juice for good measure. He's not too crazy about the vegetables, but who would be. Those look/smell disgusting. He does like the mixed vegetable one though. I've noticed he likes the orange vegetables over the greens. As far as fruit goes, he LOVES bananas and blueberry apple.

I found out today he does not like the Cuisinart. The vacuum doesn't bother him, so I thought this wouldn't either, but I was SO wrong. He gets this look on his face & lets out a loud scream. It's too funny. I took a video of it on my camera, but for some reason it's not uploading. If I figure it out, I'll post it.

Elliot Lately

For the past while, I've been jotting down little things about Elliot that I want to remember. 

• She loves clothes with pockets. She always ask if things have pockets. She likes to just walk around with her hands in her pockets. It's really cute. Recently, she's been putting rocks or money in them. If she has on a pair of pants that doesn't have pockets, she'll just pretend they do. The other day I saw her walking around with a magnifying glass sticking out of the waistband of her pants.
• She drinks the remaining milk from her cereal. I don't know where she got this because neither Lane or myself do this. I was totally surprised when I saw lift the bowl to her mouth.
• She sings to the radio. I was surprised to hear her singing "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson in the car the other day. Made me laugh. Of course she doesn't get the words right, but I can tell which song she's singing by the tune.
• "That's ok" is a favorite phrase. She'll say it to everything. She puts her shoes on the wrong foot...That's ok! Positive outlook :)
• Dishwasher piano. When I'm unloading the dishwasher, she'll always come up to the door (since it's pulled down) and pretend to play the piano & sing "I am a Child of God". It's always that song. I don't know why.
• Band aid phase. For a 2 week period she was always thinking she needed a ban ban...aka...band aid. I told her if she's not bleeding, then she doesn't need one. Then one day she fell and scraped both knees. Now by no means was she bleeding, but it did take some skin off and they were red, so she finally got 2!
• Socks to bed. Lately she insists on wearing socks to bed. Even though summer is here and it's so hot in her room, she still wants them. I'll put her to bed with out them and when she wakes up in the morning, she has them on.
