Not Expecting This

This might be too much information, but I've always been an open book so I'll tell you anyway. Plus it might be informational if you're thinking about doing this. 

About a month ago, I had the IUD, Mirena, placed in me. The other day I went to my OB for a routine sono check they do to make sure it's still in the correct spot. The tech was doing her thing and then asked me when I had had it placed in me. At first I thought nothing of it, but after she asked 3 times, I was like--what's going on lady? She informed me that it was nowhere to be found on the sonogram and I must have expelled it. I was in complete shock. Wouldn't I have noticed that?! At this point I'm thinking, well do I get another one? Or should I take this as a sign that my body was not cool with me placing a foreign object inside? 

I speak to my doctor and she refers me to have an xray done to make sure it's not in me somewhere. She says 1 of 2 things has happened. #1-you have expelled it. #2-it has traveled through your uterine wall and is floating around in your abdomen. So I have the xray done and DING DING DING #2 wins. And my prize is SURGERY! Don't worry,she says. It's minimally invasive laparoscopic and you'll barely notice 1 tiny scar. I could care less about the scar. What does concern me is that I will have to be put under. I've never had surgery in my life, much less been knocked out. The thought terrifies me. The date is set for May 8th. I always thought that if I went under the knife, it would be for a boob job. Not for something as random as this.

When I go in for my pre-op, I'm going to ask for another Mirena pamphlet. I read that thing cover to cover and don't remember this being listed as a possible outcome. Plus Lane looked up some info about cases like mine and found that if you match 1 of these 3 things (recently had a baby, are currently breastfeeding, have an inverted uterus) this is more likely to occur. That DEFINITELY was not in the pamphlet and I match ALL 3 of those. Had I known that, I would not have done it. I love my doctor, but feel like she should have known that and told me. I guess that's neither here nor there. As if my life wasn't hectic enough, let's throw a surgery in there plus the hefty bill that follows. Well it's safe to say I will not be getting another IUD. Lane & I will just have to deal with things the old fashioned way...abstinence :)

Oldie but a Goodie

My sweets turned 34 today! I feel like I really failed in the wife department here. He was originally scheduled to work today, so we had planned to celebrate the day before. We tried India Grill in The Highlands. It was awesome. Can't wait to go back. I had a doctor appointment today and at some point, he no longer had to work, so that stunk. And it ran longer than expected and caused us to miss lunch with his parents. Double stink. Fortunately we were able to eat dinner with his parents instead. Luckily Lane is so understanding and low key about his birthdays. He never really cares and never wants any presents. Which brings me to the next part. He didn't have any presents to open :( I did get him a present, but he won't get it til the end of May! I bought one of those drive your dream experiences where he gets an hour drive time in a Lamborghini Gallardo. Can't wait for that day!

Davis at 18 Months

 This kid is a real card. Always into everything! He is very interested in pressing buttons, opening and closing doors, and flushing toilets. He LOVES to be outside. He has a complete meltdown when he sees others going outside and he can't go. I believe Davis is going to be a lefty. Every time I hand him a crayon, he reaches for it with his left hand. Very strange since neither Lane or I am left handed. His taste pallet has really expanded thank goodness! He's added bananas, quesadillas and some meats to his list of foods. He still won't touch vegetables. He has this one habit that drives me bananas. He self inflicts pain. If you tell him no, he will slap his legs and let out a yell. And then he will find anything: a wall, the floor, the arm of a couch, a chair and proceed to headbutt said object. I was horrified the first time he did it. You would think the first time he realized it hurt, that he wouldn't do it again, but that has not been the case at all. I've wondered whether I should ignore it or tell him to stop hurting himself (I go back and forth between the 2). I told the doctor and he says it's completely normal and to just ignore it, so that's what I'll do from now on. Sheesh! Other than that weird thing, he is doing great. He's building up a nice little vocabulary. He knows his basic body parts although he won't always point to it. It's so fun to see him really start to understand what I'm saying. I'll ask him questions and his response is always, "ya". He sounds so cute!

Random nicknames for the kids fly out of my mouth all the time. Today was particularly funny because I called Perry Bubalouie. I usually refer to Davis when saying this. Elliot quickly corrected me by saying, "No that's not Bubalouie, that's Babycakes." Yes, yes, she is right :)

Easter Happenings

Happy Easter everyone! This year I really wanted to have Elliot understand what Easter is all about. So every Monday night we had a little lesson about it. This was one of the treats we made. By Easter we were down to one cross & barely any jelly beans.

Saturday we went to some church's egg hunt. I decided we'll be nixing egg hunts (with the exception of family ones). It just gets too crazy. I'm guessing there was about 10K people at this thing and it made it really stressful for me. I just don't like big crowds. But Elliot had a good time.

Family picture. We seriously took 20 shots & this was the only decent one. I had to do it before church because I knew we'd be a mess by the time it was over. I've always wanted to match everyone and this is the first year I was able to do it! Davis has on a tie that matches the girls' dresses.

For dinner we went to Lane's dad's house. Brenda made a fancy dinner and then we had our own egg hunt. I think we over did it a little with 100 eggs!

Perry at 3 Months

Little Miss is 3 months today! Wowzers! She is such a good baby. I really couldn't ask for better. She really likes to coo and smiles all the time. She likes it when you give her 100% of your attention...who doesn't? If she could have it her way, I would be sitting beside her in deep conversation all day long. Love this little munchkin!

6th Anniversary

St Patty's Day marked our 6 year anniversary. It fell on a Sunday and Lane was just getting off from an overnight shift, so we didn't plan to do anything. I can't really remember what the events were that day, but I do remember saying to Lane, "This day kind of sucks." LOL! I think Davis was sick and Elliot was really whiny and I remember running around trying to keep everything in order. We finally got to celebrate about a week later.

I had a Groupon for The Brownstone in Fort Worth. I've been wanting to try them out so I was happy to see the deal offered. They require you to have reservations, which I thought was silly for a weeknight, but when we got there I understood. There's definitely limited table space which made for a more intimate feel.

The food was delicious. I forgot to take pictures of our appetizers. Yes, that's plural. We ordered 2 because we were really hungry. Our reservation wasn't until 8pm. I don't remember the last time we ate that late. We're more 5:30ish eaters. Anyway, the appetizers were fried okra and fried mushrooms...healthy right? The were SO good. The batter was really thin and they just melted in my mouth. For dinner, I got the bacon blue cheese burger and Lane ordered the shrimp and crawfish po boy. They were both great as well.

For dessert we headed across the street to Sweet Sammies for an ice cream sandwich.

I love this place. You pick out your homemade cookies and ice cream and they make it for you. I'm so glad we were able to get out of the house and have a nice quiet dinner. Even if we were back home by 9:30pm :)

Chief

Lane's residency is 3 years long. Third year residents have the opportunity to be chief residents.  There are 5 total and each one oversees different responsibilities. His entire class votes on it and then the administration makes the final decision. Not surprisingly Lane received a 100% vote by his peers. We are so very proud of Lane and his accomplishment. It's nice to have some validation every once in a while for all your hard work.  It does come with a small pay raise. We'll take it! Congratulations Lane! I couldn't think of anyone more deserving than you.

Perry at 2 Months

Little miss is doing wonderfully these days. Can't really complain about anything! She's stopped having her screaming fits before bed. After one particularly rough evening, we went out and bought, Mylacon, gripe water and colic drops. Don't know which has helped or if she's just growing out of it, but I don't care! She sleeps through the night for the most part, which I am so grateful for. She and Davis both really spoiled me with that. Doc said she is a shorty, which I was surprised to hear. Elliot and Davis were always on the higher end with height. Now that's not to say she won't shoot up later down the road.

Klyde Warren Park

The weather was nice so we went to check out the new Klyde Warren Park in Dallas. It's built on top of HWY 75. It's pretty cool since it's right in the middle of all these tall buildings. They had a lot of open grass space that you could run around in. They also had a lot of tables and chairs to sit at which was nice. There was a great kid area too. We'll definitely have to go back when it's a bit warmer so the kids can play in the water part. With it being President's Day, it was really crowed, so I look forward to coming back on a random weekday.

Valentine's Day

I love all holidays and do my best to make them special, especially for the kids. This morning they woke up and found their envelopes with chocolates and a card inside.

Elliot's envelope had a water color book inside too. She was thrilled about this.

And now for the adult's...I told Lane not to get me anything, but he got me a gift card to Marble Slab which I was not about to get mad at :) Instead of fighting the crowds by going out to dinner, I wanted to do something a little more low key, but still fun. So I roped by brother and his wife into hosting a little party at their place (Remember I'm still living at my parent's, so their house was out of the question). Anyway, we had two other couples come and everyone brought their kids. Each couple brought an appetizer & dessert, so there was lots of good food. 

Yes I made him wear this shirt, but if I'm being honest he didn't really resist much. When I told my brother that I wanted each couple to make shirts, he put the kabosh on that idea. In fact I don't even think he told the others about it. Whatever, it was still fun. 

Because I love all things cheesy, I came up with a little scavenger hunt to send the guys on. I actually stole this idea from a friend who did it last year. I even used one of her clues word for word. It was very simple. I only sent them to a few places. Here's how it went:

 

This sent them to a park in my brother's neighborhood. There they found a clue that read: "Here is everything you need, time to show your creativity. Sonnets and rhymes may not be your game, but to us it's all the same. Write a card for your wife, the love of your life!" I had them send us a picture with their cards for their next clue.

 

The next clue read:

 

Each hubby sent a picture of their wife's favorite flower. Now in my head I wondered if they would actually buy the flowers. I came to the conclusion that Lane & Brad would be the ones to do it and Donnie & Justin would not. The clue did not say to buy them, so I couldn't really hold it against them. Well I was wrong and not one single guy bought flowers for their wife! Sadly I wasn't too surprised. We had to settle for just the pictures instead.

"You have all the pieces that make up a perfect night: card, candy, flowers- you're doing alright. Present them to your lover and get ready to eat, and then there will be one last game to complete."

Those flowers in my brother's hand came from their dining room table. Once we ripped into them for not getting us flowers, he grabbed those. Anyway, that was the scavenger hunt. They said it was actually pretty fun for them, so I was pleased.

After that we all ate and then we played a newlywed game. I really enjoyed our night and hopefully everyone else did too. I wouldn't mind doing something like this every year.
