aaannnd DONE!

Well I finished my first race ever today! It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to signing up for more. I didn't make my goal of running the entire way:( But I also didn't train like I was supposed to either. I was following a 5 week program & did great the first 2 weeks. After that I did nothing until today. Yep, probably not the best idea. And it probably wasn't the best idea to eat brownies for breakfast & lunch the day before a race either. What can you do? I was happy with how I did. I ran for a tad over 2 miles without stopping. Then I decided to slow it down a bit. No one wants to throw up during a 5k & I was NOT going to be that person. I probably walked a total of .5 miles, maybe even less & then finished strong with a time of 33 minutes 5 seconds. Not too shabby for me. Here's all the people. I think there were 13,000 runners & then you have all the spectators & people who came for the parade.
I roped Laura into running with me. She totally burned me by running the entire way. Thank goodness she came though because I definitely ran longer than I would have on my own.
At the finish. Poor little Elliot was not happy. Apparently she cried the entire time. Probably too much wind & loud noises.

Night Out

Last night we went to Cirque Dreams Illumination. It's similar to Cirque de Soleil but it's a different company. I was so excited when Lane came home with tickets for FREE! His attending wasn't able to go & gave them to him. She said his wife needed a night out. Amen to that! And we had a great night and got all dressed up. Haven't done that in forever. Thank you to Brian & Christina for watching our munchkin!

Girly Things & Forgotten Valentine

Yesterday we had a little girly get together planned. Elliot and Avery had a good time hanging out. It's so cute because they interact with each other & smile. I have a feeling they will become good buddies.
I also made some bows. Just the basics, but I love them. It takes me a few tries to get the hang of it, so each of them have their own little imperfections. Oh well.
And lastly, here's Elliot with her Valentine's card from mommy & daddy. I feel horrible about this one because that picture was taken TODAY...9 days late! I was digging through my night stand drawer for something & found it! I bought the card 2 weeks before Valentine's Day & stored it away so it wouldn't get messed up. I can't believe I forgot. In my defense, I was sick on V-Day, but still. I'm a horrible mother!

Half Birthday

Elliot is 6 months today! Lane wanted to celebrate her half birthday with a cake & everything, but I thought that was a bit silly since she can't even eat it. She doesn't have her checkup until 2 weeks from now, so I'll have to fill you in on her stats then.

As of now she:
  • eats some type of food with every bottle. She likes carrots, peas, pears, sweet potatoes, applesauce, bananas & oatmeal (I threw away the rice cereal)
  • sits unsupported pretty well. However she does get pretty upset when she falls over.
  • has gotten pretty good at pushing the buttons on her toy & immediately closing the door that pops up.
  • likes it when you bounce up & down with her, or pretend like you're dropping her.
  • sleeps through the night! We started this 2 weeks ago & am so glad I finally bit the bullet.

Date Night

FINALLY! It only took us 6 months to go out. Lane's mom came in town for a conference & stayed with us for a couple of days. She was nice enough to babysit E last night. So we took in a movie. The movie itself was just ok. Bummer. We spent $9.75 a ticket (I think they just raised the prices) & $3 to park on a movie that I would have been better off renting for a dollar. Oh well. It was nice to get out. I did take notice of something that Lane & I will have to work on-Romance-. I saw all these other couples holding hands, leaning on each other, etc. I think we probably held hands during the movie for maybe 2 minutes, then it was to the corners of our own seats. I know that's not a big deal, but I'm a hopeless romantic & I want to keep that going! I love being affectionate & feeling that affection from Lane as well. I think we've gotten to a point of being so comfortable with each other that we tend to skip on the extra effort. Sigh...always something to work on.

Valentine's Day

My 2 loves (bad picture)

Yesterday we celebrated Valentine's Day. I was in charge of planning it this year & I totally dropped the ball. It wasn't that I didn't think about it. I've been trying to come up with something for a couple of months now. The weather here has been so cold & wet, so that eliminates anything outdoors. And we had E with us so that only leaves us with a few options. So we ended up eating at the Aquarium. I like this place because there's floor to ceiling fish tanks.
Lane got me these beautiful roses & candy. I got him a personalized romance novel. It's really cheesy, but it has us as the characters in the book. It's pretty funny. I also made him his own blog that I update for him weekly.

Over Christmas Missy took our family pictures. It's not often that EVERYONE is together since my brother lives in Phili. I love the way they turned out. I'm surprised there were so many good shots since the weather was pretty nasty outside. These were taken at the Botanical Gardens in Fort Worth.

Here are our several attempts to get a good belly laugh out of Elliot. For some reason she doesn't fully let go when she sees the camera out. There are 4 attempts on this slideshow. Enjoy!

Naps Aren't Just For Kids

I am having trouble getting to sleep at night and I know exactly why, but just can't seem to kick the habit. My normal bedtime post baby is around 9ish and I LOVE that. I feel I need to go to sleep early so I can wake up however many times it takes to put her pacifier back in her mouth and to feed her. She usually doesn't start squirming around until midnight and by that point I've been out for 3 hours so it's not so bad getting up. Although last night she didn't get up once! Keep your fingers crossed that it will continue. You want to know why I'm staying up later these days? It's because when I put E down for her morning nap, I put myself down as well. And we sleep a good 2 hours! I've told myself I'm going to stop it, but I have to confess I LIKE napping with her. Yes we're in the same bed...my bed...I can't fit into hers. Plus I know I won't be able to do it forever so I'm taking advantage of it. Here's how this all started...I am not a morning person, so when I have to get up at 7am for her, I'm just counting down the 2 hours it takes to tire her out so I can sleep too! I would put her in her own crib but for some reason she will only last 45 minutes tops. But if I'm next to her, she'll go 2 hours! It's awesome. Plus, how can I resist this face?
I can't. Which is why it is now 11:26pm and I'm up blogging all alone. :(

I don't expect anyone to really care about this video except for the grandparents. This is Elliot taking her first taste of carrots. I think they're her favorite by far!
