Puppy Love

A couple of months ago, we watched "Marley & Me" & ever since then have been talking about getting a dog. And then the other day we saw a girl walking her mini dachshund & we fell in love! That will be the dog we get, whenever that is. Our timing is really bad. We would LOVE to get one now, but we'll be moving across town in a month, so we wouldn't wan to confuse it. Then a couple of months after that, we'll have a little girl to keep us busy. And I would rather get a dog after we already had a kid so the dog doesn't get jealous & start acting crazy. Then we really need to wait til Elliot gets a little older for a couple of reasons...1) I need to see if I can successfully take care of a child & 2) I want to be able to give enough attention to the dog. And of course ideally we would like so have a yard for the dog to play in. And if we wait for that to happen, it will be 2 years from now...ugh! So I guess it's safe to say that it will probably be a while, but when you see this little face, how can you not just melt?

Look at those puppy eyes.

And is this last one not just the cutest thing? He's all ready to play!

Reason goes out the window when you're this cute.

Half Way There

Last Friday, Lane finished his 2nd year of medical school, which means he only has 2 more years until he's an MD. If I look at it one way, it has flown by, but if I think back to when we first moved to Houston, it seems like forever ago. I'm sure he feels it more than me. Anyway, here he is with all his notes from this year. This isn't even including the books that he bought. The next 2 years should be more fun for him because he will start rotations & be out of the classroom. Get ready for some good stories!

Dream

I find it odd that the night before Mother's Day I have this dream. It's the first time I've ever dreamt about Elliot. And in this dream I'm a horrible mother! I keep forgetting to feed her! I hope this is not foreshadowing.

Houston Art Car Show 2009

Lane & I went downtown to watch the Art Car Show. It was so entertaining to see all the interesting vehicles. It makes me want to buy a junker & decorate it all crazy like. We stayed about an hour & I got a glimpse of what summer will be like for me...not good. It was so hot! I was so sweaty that my jeans were sticking to my legs. Note to self: wear shorts, skirts, capris...anything airy. Afterwards we made a mad dash to Sonic & picked up a cherry lime slush. Ahhh...refreshing!

Drive In

Lane & I headed out to the drive in about an hour outside of town. I was so excited when I found out there was one nearby. I think they're great! And it's only $5 per person & you get to watch 2 movies. We went to see "Wolverine". It was pretty good. By the time it was over it was 10:30, so we skipped out on the 2nd movie. For those of you who live in DFW area, there's a great one there too. You should definitely check it out.

The screen.

At the concession stand. These characters make me think of the song "Let's go out to the movies, let's go out to the movies, let's go out to the movies, & have ourselves a snack!"

Cinco de Mayo

In honor of this tasty holiday, we felt we had to at least eat Mexican food. And when deciding where to go, we thought-what's more Mexican than 100% Taquito??? Ever since moving to Houston, I've always driven by this place & wondered why it had such a strange name. Well we finally ventured in & were delighted by the food. It was really good, really cheap & really small portions (which is why it's really cheap). Nevertheless, we both liked it & felt we did our duty to honor Mexico. Don't ask me why we celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I know the Mexican army won some kind of battle. And I know that it wasn't their Independence. That's good enough.

Alone in Austin

Yesterday Lane had a medical conference he had to be at in Austin. It was also right in the middle of his test week. So I volunteered to go with him so he could at least study on the drive. However, that left me with 6 hours all to myself! At first I was bummed out because I had no idea what I would do to occupy myself. I decided to hit up the outlets in San Marcos. Surprisingly, that took up my entire afternoon and I ended up getting some great deals! Plus I walked for about 5 hours, so that was good too.

Binge Eating & Damage Control

My snacking is completely out of control. We bought a snack box variety pack w/ 16 bags of little cookies on Saturday & today they are now gone. Mainly because I've eaten an average of 4 bags a day. Ya I'm pretty sure they're supposed to last a lot longer. And these binges are on top of me already stopping to buy some sort of fast food while I'm at work, whether it's cheddar peppers, breakfast jacks, double cheeseburgers or breadsticks from Pizza Hut. Today I was so ashamed that I wouldn't even tell Lane what I had to eat. He had to dig through the trash to discover my bad habits. I had to look away. Oh the embarassment.

I was doing pretty good at going to the gym for the last month, but that's when my motivation usually starts to dwindle & I find excuses not to go. So I went online & ordered 2 prenatal dvds: 10 Minute Solution Prenatal Pilates & The Total Pregnancy Workout. I tried the pilates today. I did 2 of the workouts (20 min). I was good after 1, but Lane so kindly encouraged me that I was in pretty good shape to be able to handle 2 of them...ugh. I have to say I did pretty good. You can see I wasn't prepared with real dumbbells, so I had to settle with 2 cans of Thick & Hearty New England Clam Chowder. Tomorrow I will try out the other.

In Action: Lane thought I looked so funny in my tight workout clothes with my big belly hanging out.

I figured he might as well take a picture from the side so you can see how big I really am.

Disclaimer: Just in case I've made it sound that way, in no way does Lane constantly check up on my food intake. In fact it's quite the opposite. He's usually the one making my chocolate milkshakes or bringing me a homeade cookie monster.

Happy Birthday Lane!

Today was Lane's 30th birthday! The big one! I thought it was pretty funny that this week he has been laying flat on his back for the past couple of days. He doesn't know what he did (besides get old). He had a pretty good day. He ate nonstop which is good for him since he's trying to gain weight. (He finally hit the 200 lb mark) Anyway, we started off the day by going to breakfast at Buffalo Grille before his classes. While he was at school, they had a pizza party & his friend brought cupcakes & he scored a free pita from somewhere. When he got home I had the cake from Buca di Beppo waiting for him which was delicious! He opened all of his cards/presents. Then we went to dinner with a bunch of our friends at Cafe Adobe. It was a great time.

He's excited here because we didn't have to pay for dinner.

Thanks to everyone who celebrated Lane's big day with us!

Happy Easter!

This is as good as it gets for Easter decoration at my house. I do plan on buying some, but I'm waiting for the sales. Last night Lane & I dyed Easter eggs. Then I felt we needed some sort of a basket to display them in, so off we were to Walgreens & came back with this 99 cent steal. This morning I woke up to an empty basket. When I asked where the eggs went, he said he hid them around the house & I had to hunt them. I was so excited! I would have taken some pictures of it, but like I said, I had just woken up & was not properly dressed. I had been telling him for the last couple of weeks that I wanted to do an Easter egg hunt & he delivered.

Body Parts

I had a doctor's appointment today & everything looks good. Here are a couple of decent shots. The top one you can see her little profile.

This is my favorite one. Her feet are too cute!

20 Weeks

Here you go, a baby bump picture. This is me at 20 weeks, the half way point, woohoo! Today 2 people at work told me I was showing & I even had on a loose shirt, so I officially accept it. I can definitely feel it in the waist of my pants. However I'm still not big enough to wear maternity pants. But I definitely need to start wearing maternity shirts to avoid looking like a stuffed sausage. I started feeling the baby kick about a week ago, so that's fun. The weekly emails I subscribe to say the baby is about the size of a banana & is developing the senses. When I heard that, I started reading a children's book (Desperaux), but didn't read it out loud so that kind of defeated the purpose. I will say that I'm a little more worn out than usual. Not sleepy really, but my body is just tired a lot. I have an appointment tomorrow to check out the organs & then I have my regular monthly check up on Tuesday, so I'll know more then.

Darling

This morning my friend Brittany treated me to breakfast & some baby shopping! Although I feel so bad when people buy me things, I also LOVE it & appreciate it so much. Her friend owns this little shop called Nest & Cot that sells adorable baby clothes, bedding, furniture, etc. Once I walked in there it got me rethinking my whole nursery idea. Everything in there is so cute. Here are the 2 pieces I picked out.

Tell me they are not precious! The first one is light purple & the tiniest thing you've ever seen! And this dress just melts my heart. It's a linen material with ruffles everywhere. I would totally wear this if it came in my size! I can already tell having a little girl will be so much fun!

Maternity Clothes

The other day I bought a few maternity pieces. Ones that I feel could go either way...baby/after baby. Luckily I don't have to buy very much because Regina & Amy have ever so graciously lent me their maternity clothes for the time being. I've been putting off opening the "maternity" tub that's been sitting in the corner of my room because I haven't felt like going through it all. But today I decided to check things out & I don't know what I was waiting for! All of a sudden I have a whole new wardrobe of cute clothes thanks to their stylish tastes. There was way more than I had anticipated, so I made the decision to wait til Saturday to hang things up & rearrange my closet. Now I'm sure that the natural shopper in me will still buy a couple of things here & there, but what a relief to not have to. Thanks guys!
