Dusting Off the Running Shoes
I was inspired after reading my cousin's (Allison) blog to sign up for my 1st race! At first I was going to sign up for the 10k, but then remembered that I haven't attempted running since I was 4 months pregnant with Elliot & even before then it was limited. And it's only a month away, so I don't have time to get into that good of shape. So instead I opted for the 5k. Yes, I'll probably be running with mostly kids, but that's alright. I figured baby steps was the best way to go for me. Plus my goal is to run the entire 3 miles, and since at the moment I can't run .25 miles without stopping, I'm going to have to work for it. So for all you veteran runners (Marianne), please feel free to give me any tips on training, clothing, etc. And if anyone else wants to join me, I would love it! If this race goes well, next time I'll do the 10k.

Don't underestimate the 5k. Depending on the course, that could be an easy 3 miles or a hard 3 miles. For me, I ran for 2 mins and walked 1 min. I trained for one month before my 1st 5k race and made a decent time.
As far as attire, I'm all about the under armour! Depending when your race is, go take a look at their cold gear and heat gear.
Running is AWESOME!!! I'm so excited for you!!! Keep us posted on your progress. You will love it!
I have been trying to get out and do a bit of jogging myself. I ran a mile today and it was torture. Good luck.
Very cool... I did my first and only race (also a 5K) last year, just a few weeks after I found out I was pregnant. I'm planning to do the same race again this year... so I guess I better start practicing -- I haven't exercised AT ALL since June!!
Here's my post about the race:

Yea Jalei!! You're going to get addicted. And a 5K is the perfect place to start. If there is a running store close by where they watch you run and fit you for good shoes, go there. Otherwise just make sure you get a good pair--shoes are the most important part. I am an under armour fan because it absorbs sweat best and keeps me from getting cold. A month is plenty of time to get ready for a 5K; just make sure you don't jump into it with too many miles or else you'll get shin splints.
Good for you! I'm trying to make myself start working out :)
I cannot wait to start working out again after I have the baby. It's a while away, but I miss it. But running will NOT be part of my regime.
You will love it! Google 5k training programs and you will find a lot! Which race are you doing?? I agree...get good shoes. Go to lukes locker, have them fit you for your "perfect pair" then see if you can find them cheaper online! Have fun!!
Good for you. Starting is the hardest. Once you have two miles down adding more are easy.
dang girl, that's awesome!!! good luck with the training, I'm sure you'll be great!! :)
Good for you Jalei. I really need to get out and do something, but I have still not recuperated from everything. 3 miles should be doable. I used to run 2 1/2-3 miles when I was in college as my workout. That is about all I can do, though. After that I get bored of running. Good luck!
that sound like fun! i went running for the first time in months a week ago and about died! i'm a bit interested in the race though the only trouble is finding time to run!
Congrats! You will get addicted! And I agree with Marianne-shoes are the MOST important! Cant wait to hear all about your progress! Hope it goes well so I can talk you into doing a half with me!
Good for you!!
