Venting

Some people find the city exciting, and it does have it's perks. You're close to everything & something is always going on. I on the other hand would trade it in for the burbs anytime. I much prefer the more spread out, peaceful atmosphere it offers. I have no problem driving at least 10 minutes to my destination. Target...10 minutes. Grocery store...10 minutes. Target...10 minutes. Going into the city would be a treat. But this place, ugh! I am at my wits end with this place. It is so noisy! Maybe I'm more irritated because one of our neighbors has decided it's a great idea to blast ghetto music all day everyday. I'm not kidding. It starts at 9am & goes into the night. I can't figure out which neighbor it is. I've even gone outside & walked around to investigate. Maybe I'm more bothered by the noise because I have Elliot. I'm more aware of it. But seriously, if it's not one thing it's the next. Today while I was trying to take a nap I heard constant car doors shutting, cars speeding down the street, ambulance sirens, people talking...I could go on. I dream of the day when I move!

Here's what you do...get even!!! Play country as loud as you can!

Ugh!!! This will all be a memory one day. Like, you know how our parents tell stories about how rough they had it? Well this will be yours.

I feel your pain. Apartment life was the pits b/c of noise. It'll get better though!

Well, I live in the country with normally no noise. But I find it hard to take a nap now with the workers building the house and hearing their Mexican music.

awww! that sucks! hopefully one day you'll figure out who it is...then you can really get even by telling the leasing office..scratch that, the police! ;)

Sorry things are so bad. I had such neighbors once and although this is the worst way to deal with it- I once got so angry and stomped on the ceiling (i suspected the downstairs neighbours). And granted I was pregnant, hormonal and upset. They came up for a fight, saw Matt and decided against it. We had a peaceful time the rest of our stay at that complex. Hope it gets better soon.

It is definitely Elliot! I am WAY more sensitive to noise now that before kids!

Yes, kids do that to you! It would bug me too. When our neighbors have parties (which isn't often thank goodness) I seriously contemplate calling the police with a noise complaint.

Its good to catch up on your blog. Elliot is such a beautiful little girl. Really? can they come any cuter? Hopefully the burbs will come sooner than later. For us, I am thinking we will be here forever unless rob ever changes his job! Awesome-- like we could ever afford a 400 thousand dump ( the cheapest things around here)... ever... Oh well.
How are things going at home? I am sure that you are loving it! I mean come on, who doesn't want to spend 24-7 with their cute kid anyway!

I can totally feel your pain since I lived exactly two apartments away from you! I seriously think it is the lady who used to live below me that is blasting the ghetto music! I also think she secretly sells drugs and runs a prostitution ring... no seriously! Try getting Elliot a white noise machine. That's what we did and it worked wonders.

I think what you are describing is more accurately described as apartment living. City living and apartment living are two different things. One can live in the city and not experience apartment living.

It also depends on which apartment complex you live in. While we no longer live at the Amalfi, it was an awesome apartment complex. No noise whatsoever. I have some work friends that live there currently and say they never hear anybody, their wall neighbors, people down the hall, etc. (These same co-workers used to live in another place they hated b/c they had a guy blast his music all day/had tons of dogs that made noise).

Have you and Lane considered renting a duplex or townhouse? I find that if you get out of apartment neighborhoods, you may have a little more luck finding a quieter one.

@Laura: You can find something that's a not a dump for <$400K. It's most likely not going to be a house, though. There are lots of brand new townhouses and duplexes available. :)

We use a sound machine too. People are always walking by and shutting doors, etc... It seems to help Katie stay asleep and not be scared or weird noises.

But I can't wait for the day I'm in a nice friendly little neighborhood too. (sigh) ... one day!
